Be cautious when someone…

Requests payment to guarantee a job, interview or offer: registration fee, security deposit, training fee or kit charge.
Asks for passwords, one-time passcodes or access to your email or bank account.
Requests Aadhaar, PAN, bank details or identity documents before an offer letter.
Pressures you to act immediately or keep the process secret.
Offers unusually high pay for vague or minimal work.
Uses inconsistent company names, suspicious links or only a personal email address.
Asks you to receive, transfer or move money or parcels on their behalf.
Will not explain the responsibilities, pay or hiring process.

Before you apply

Read the complete description, including pay, location and experience.
Search the company name independently and open its website.
Find a contact number on the company site rather than in the message.
Share only information relevant to this application.
Keep a copy of the listing and important messages.

Before you accept

Get the role, pay, hours, start date and reporting line in writing.
Understand probation, notice, confidentiality and ownership terms.
For freelance work, confirm deliverables, revisions, milestones and payment.
Do not treat a verbal promise as part of the agreement.

You have already paid or shared documents

Stop sending money or information immediately.
Keep screenshots, receipts, phone numbers and account details.
Contact your bank if you shared card, bank or UPI details.
Report it at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930.
